So while we don’t have the full info or confirmation on a survivor-level history, we really like what this represents. There’s an everlasting attraction of a Sting Ray that was born red, has its numbers-matching motor, and all the panel button up to fit crisply when closed up. So it’s an icon that understands what it means to perpetuate fundamental appeal. Inside, the black offers more of that timeless kind of style. After all, there’s arguably no better color combo than red with a black interior when you want a power car. The carpeting, door panels, dash, and other fundamentals have a quality dark and stock appearance. You may feel like restoring the gauges, radio, or other details, but nothing diminishes the feeling of a proper driver’s car. You slip into the nicely upholstered bucket seat and grab the wood-rimmed sports steering wheel with your left hand. Your right one will love rowing through the Hurst shifter as it helps you control the high-octane soundtrack coming out of the side pipes. Under the hood is more of the attractive vintage style. There are hints of polish on the air grabber and distributor shield, and a classic Corvette looks terrific with the script on the small block’s valve covers. At the center is the numbers-matching 327 cubic-inch block. It inhales deeply with a four-barrel carburetor, and we cannot stress how much we love the sound of how the V8 exhales through the side pipes. Best of all, the four-speed manual transmission puts you in the center of the action. And the fully independent suspension, power steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes make this one of the best classic American cars to enjoy on the back roads.
