This is an original California black plate car that spent 44 years of its life in Southern California and was transported to Michigan inside an Intercity Lines trailer. The car has been stored inside a climate controlled building during the winter in Michigan and inside a garage during the summer. The car has undergone a one – time only extensive frame on restoration (frame off not needed since is a California car) and has been garaged and driven only 11,700 miles since.
Paint and Chrome:
The show quality finish you see in the photos is the result of a professional paint job. Before the restoration, everything was removed from the body of the car and all the paint was stripped down to the bare fiberglass. The entire body was then resin coated and painstakingly block sanded by hand until laser straight before being primed and painted in its original LaMans Blue color.
Interior and soft top:
New leather seats were installed this summer in the factory correct style and Bright Blue color code 414, and the in the correct fit and finish that this car was intended to have. The soft top is only 2 years old, expertly redone in the original white color.
During the restoration, the original 327 motor was removed and replaced with a higher horsepower 350 cid – 350 HP Corvette crate motor from Chevrolet. The motor is not only more powerful but also more reliable, more efficient than the original and runs on unleaded gas which is a real plus. The close ratio 4 speed manual transmission was rebuilt, the carburetor rebuilt, the radiator recored, all hoses replaced, rebuilt power steering and brake boosters, all electrical wires replaced, suspension and brakes replaced with new, all new bushings and a new factory correct exhaust system was also installed.
With new shocks, this car rides as smooth as it did when it was new. The power steering is smooth and quiet and so are the power brakes. The alignment is nice and straight. A set of four new white letter BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires where just mounted and have less the 100 miles on them.
All the vacuum components on this car were rebuilt to work flawlessly including the headlights and windshield wipers.
Being an original Southern California car there is absolutely no rust anywhere underneath (not even surface rust) and was never undercoated! The car comes with the original “California Black Plate” and original owner’s manual.
